Baie D’Urfé…Country living in the city!

Baie d’Urfe (Bay-durfay), one of the West Island Real Estate’s most prestigious neighbourhoods, country living at its best! It is a quiet, peaceful community, bordering the North shore of Lake St-Louis, near the Western tip of the Island of Montreal. The area is rich in history and features many historical homes dating back to the turn of the century when the area was primarily a vacation area for city dwellers.

In fact, the name of the town comes from François-Saturnin Lascaris d’Urfé, who was the community’s first pastor. The pastor was sent to serve as a missionary for the parish of Saint-Louis-du-Bout-de-l’Île in the late 1600’s (later renamed after him), which was a small community of settlers, traders, soldiers, and Indians.
Although there is a prosperous Industrial Park in Baie-dUrfe, access to it is completely removed from the highly coveted residential area, which is charmingly rural yet a short 25 minutes from downtown, or 45 minutes on the commuter train. This fact makes this lovely community highly attractive to busy professionals.

Primarily residential, this bedroom community features mostly single-family homes. Lots are large – mostly a minimum of 15,000 s.f., as properties have septic systems, hence slightly lower city taxes. Plenty of room for the children and pets to play! And for the gardening aficionado, great opportunities to create masterpieces!

Housing ranges from sprawling lakefront properties to quaint ranch-style bungalows, and a sprinkling of condominiums. A local shopping centre offers convenient daily services such as groceries, dry cleaning etc. For more extensive services, you need only drive a short distance!

The area has plenty of recreational facilities, including several marinas, a community centre, curling club and parks. Flanking beautiful Lake St Louis, there are also plenty of water sports available! To buy or sell in Baie D’Urfe, contact me.
